Special Effects Makeup artist Dave Snyder took this photo of Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy while working as part of the Oscar winning special effects makeup team on STAR TREK (2009). Dave handled the application of the ears on Zachary Quinto every day as well as some other Vulcan and Romulan makeups. He also painted Rachel Nichols as the Orion Slave Girl in that film.
And somehow I had neglected to mention how fortunate we are to have my good friend Dave doing special effects makeup on this film. Dave is from Owensboro originally and has spent the past 17 years working in Hollywood doing this professionally. There are a few things in this film that will need his guidance and expertise and he will be designing a makeup specifically for one character and doing the application here as well.

Dave and I did some short projects around here before he left for LA years ago and had so much fun and we can’t wait to get to work together again. If you watch the extra features on the on the Blu-Ray version of STAR TREK you can see him in action. He has also worked on PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN (2 and 3); NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN; THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM; DAWN OF THE DEAD and many others. I am elated he is on board but even more thankful to have him as a friend.
